Agro-morphological Characterization of Proso millet Germplasm for Utilization

نویسندگان

چکیده

Aims: In this study, 634 accessions of proso millet were evaluated to assess phenotypic diversity using morpho-agronomic traits, aiming identify specific donors for desired traits.
 Study Design: Augmented design.
Place and Duration Study: During the Kharif season 2021, a total germplasm characterized, alongside three control varieties, as part Institute Project (IIMR/CI/2021-2026/150) at ICAR-IIMR in Hyderabad.
Methodology: The experimental design employed was an augmented block design, four check namely GPUP 8, TNAU 145, 164, 202, included.
Results: results revealed significant variation across all traits studied. Principal Component Analysis (PCA) demonstrated that first principal components accounted 60% variation. PC1 27.3% variation, followed by PC2 (22.6%) PC3 (10%). primarily influenced Leaf blade length (cm), Peduncle Panicle Plant height grain yield (g plant-1). Furthermore, study identified 21 with superior performance multiple (3-6 traits).
Conclusion: These can serve valuable genetic resources improving quality traits. selected multi-trait be directly released cultivation, serving short-term breeding goal. This approach has potential enable farmers achieve high remuneration harvesting increased yields.

Evaluation of proso millet (Panicum miliaceum L.) germplasm collections

Evaluation of three hundred and sixty four proso millet germplasm accessions were done during rabi, 2008-2009 at Department of Millets, Centre for Plant Breeding and Genetics, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore to study genetic variability, diversity, correlation and path analysis of yield and its components. High variability observed for most of the characters indicated the scope o...

Nutritionally Important Components of Proso Millet (Panicum miliaceum L.)

Proso millet (Panicum miliaceum L.) belongs to one of the first cultivated plants. Although the crop is traditionally grown, especially in Asia and from European countries through to Russia, nowadays it has become a new alternative crop and a new raw material for food production in many developed countries. Also changes of climatic conditions can support the growth of this drought-resistant pla...

Effect of Tillage Systems on Proso Millet Production

Proso millet (Panicum miliaceum L.) is well-adapted for the Central Great Plains and could be planted in a winter wheat (Triticum aestivum L.)-millet-fallow rotation, resulting in two crops in 3 yr. To determine the most suitable tillage system for proso millet production within this rotation, seven tillage management systems were evaluated over a 6-yr period (1972-1977). The research was condu...
